Mandatory Dialing: Begins January 14, 2001
Preparing For the 612 Area Code Split
If you retain the 612 area code, no changes are necessary. If your phone number changes, you will need to make the following adjustments:
Windows 95 / 98
By default, Windows automatically assumes that a call between area codes is long distance and adds a 1 to the number when it dials it. To make sure your modem operates properly when your change becomes permanent, you'll need to determine how both your phone number and your ISP's phone number are affected, and, If necessary, make changes to your modem's dialing properties.
1. Double Click on the My Computer icon.
2. Double Click on the Dial-Up Networking folder.
3. Right Click your connection icon.
4. Choose Properties.
5. Click the Use Country Code and Area Code (Win 95), or Use Area Code and Dialing Properties (Win 98) box to deselect it.
6. Add the 612 prefix to Internet Exposure's dial up number in the Telephone Number Field.
7. Click OK and your modem is ready to dial between the two area codes properly.
